LatterRain |
Halifax
based modern rock group “LatterRain,”
was formed in 2001 by three brothers; Matt Riendeau,
Josh Riendeau, and Josiah Riendeau, along with long-time
friend Craig Baltzer. In 2004 they were joined by
Aaron Rogers.
LatterRain’s first performances were held in
small venues, barns, and outdoor patios, and many
of them included leading worship at summer youth camps.
From these humble beginnings LatterRain has grown
and seen an extensive series of live performances
on bigger stages and arenas across the Maritimes as
a supporting act for well-known international acts
such as Reuben Morgan, Tree 63, Salvador, Starfield,
and Joy Williams. LatterRain has also performed with
local Canadian acts such as The Contact and Three
Season Ant and has been headlining many Christian
festivals such as “Elevate.06” and “Ablaze
Festival.”
In early 2005, LatterRain released their debut CD
“Something Real,” a diverse compilation
of songs from the bands’ early years as well
as those that were written during the recording process.
After the release of the album the band’s concert
schedule began to pick up and has shown no sign of
slowing down. The success of their first recording
was overwhelming and as a result, more invitations
to play came in. “Many opportunities have opened
up for us as a band,” explains Josiah. “Our
prayer and desire through all of this is that our
music and concerts will challenge people of all ages
to give up everything and dive into a deep relationship
with Christ. We are excited to see where God will
take us next.”
LatterRain’s musical sound pairs melodic vocals
with dynamic modern rock and influences from bands
like Delirious, Coldplay, and U2 can be heard. The
music is sincere and genuine despite the “non-religious”
nature of the melodic and rhythmic style. LatterRain
is currently working on new material and is preparing
to record a new album soon. This sophomore effort
will no doubt exceed the expectations of their fans
with a fresh sound that extends beyond their first
project. “We are really excited about the new
songs we have been working on,” explains Matt.
“We feel they effectively capture the thrill,
excitement, and reverence of a live LatterRain performance.
We have grown much musically and spiritually since
the last album and can’t wait for our fans to
hear our new sound and to hear our testimonies in
the lyrics. We believe God has a message for each
person who hears these songs.”
LatterRain has a strong desire to get involved in
the lives of young people through music, fun, or just
talking. “Our goal is not just to show up at
a gig or performance and play some songs and leave,”
says Matt. “We want to connect with our audience
and give them something more than a rock show and
a good time. We want to get to know people and make
new friends. It’s about more than the music…
it’s about helping and serving people. We want
to be available to lend a helping hand, to listen,
to love. God has given us much and in return, we want
to give what we can to others.”
